Good place to get smog check?
Can anyone reccomend any good places in the bay area to get a smog check done? I will have the stock turboback exhaust on, but I really don't want to have to take my front mount or aftermarket header off, just to get it smogged. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't think the average smog shop will even notice those mods as long as you pass the sniffer.

Like I said on rs25. Take your car to a shop you plan on smogging it , then do a pretest and see if they bother you for anything.

You should be able to take it to any shop since headers you cant really see and rest is all stock. What kinda headers are they anyway?

ALWAYS do a pre-test if you are not sure your car will pass. Emissions failures (even due to the tech screwing up) go on your car's record and can be seen in Carfax. This makes it hard to sell a car to an idiot down the road.

They also have less tools at test onlys and generally cant lift your car to check the numbers on the cat.

I've been taking my car to Capitol Auto Care on the eastside for a few years. No issues, 25 bucks if you have the pennysaver add. Easiest way to pass though, is to go back to stock. No worries then.

I'm not really worried about not passing for emissions. I'm more worried that someone would fail me do to some aftermarket parts on the car that I don't really want to take off of the car. I might just have to bite the bullet on this one and take everything off. I hope it won't have to come to that.

Just got my car smogged last week and passed! I'm legal again for another two years. Now all I have to do is finish breaking in the new motor and get it tuned.

^ Yep, sure did. I left my header, upipe, fmic, and spt intake on. I just showed them the carb eo for the spt intake and I guess they weren't too worried about the rest.

Smog techs arent checking headers on subarus and they wouldnt know the difference if they were grimmspeed manifold also. also uppipe is basically inaccesible to check. Im glad you got your car passed Joe.
