On topic... Sorta... Would it be worth-while to try getting some night shots with a 17-40 F4/L assuming a stable place to park the camera and timer used for all shots? Trying to pick up a 50mm 1.4 but money's tight.

twin peaks (you'll probably not be able to get your car in the photo), Legion of Honors, Treasure Island (but not this weekend LOL), Marina Green area are places that i can think of right now.

if you're using a tripod then nothing wrong with a 17-40/4.0. i'm sure you heard this before, but 50/1.8 is a good deal too.

Not SF, but the Alameda Naval Air Station probably has a few suitable locations: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...8ce097b8ae9eba

twin peeks sucks. to many kids up there drinking. best is palace of fine arts in front of the lake, where there is a road you can drive around and get some DOPE pictures at night. i used to climb it and drink on the roof and there was a guy that would drive around and stare at people. weird ish. also another good place is just downtown city hall. really good picture spots there. for open lighting along van ness. and sometimes the ocean flutes at the marina are dope...

next time try to drive out by the marin club house. there is a huge flood light there that makes a great shadow and it looks realllllly good against the back lit city line. its right here...also notice right to the right of it it says Wave Oregon. check it out if you have not been.....

You got a Nikon? You can borrow my 50/1.8

TI or hunters point/ Irish hill, south of the ballpark looking back towards the city is nice too.
