Good home sound system
Good home sound system
My dad just bought this really nice tv from costco hah and he wants to set up a nice sound system. Ima noob to this thing, so what would you guys recommend? Hes really into sports and im into movies. Something nice but not too pricey, ya know?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Depends on your price range. Bose is OK, over priced, really. Klipsch makes good stuff. Continuously wins awards for being the best bang for your buck. a 5.1 surround could go from a few grand to about $15 grand depending on components and what not that you use.

+1 for the bose 3-2-1. Their stuff does tend to be a tad overpriced though. While I worked at Magnolia, bose system markup was really really high (I only have one cause i got a fat discount.) Can't go wrong with Klipsch or Bose IMHO.

tell your pops, for around $1500-2000 (and i am HIGH BALLING for extra margin), i can setup a nifty little system.
a 5.1 setup. around 80-100 watts per channel. subwoofer.
tune the audio and video system.

WRXGUY, don't be fooled... Home audio gets into the hundred thousands, EASILY, and that's not a full setup... Electronics, especially home audio is probably one of the most marked up items.
What size room is this for? And for a grand you could get a couple nice pairs of bookshelfs. and a sub.

Bose really isn't that good. Not for the prices they charge any way. Bose is more for people who don't know how to put together a good system.
Adjusting to the room???.... I set each speaker delay myself from where I'll be sitting most of the time. That way all of the sounds hit my ears at the right time.
+1 for Onkyo
My uncle had an Onkyo set up. It wasn't to expensive and the quality is all there.

I work in the industry, and trust me, bose virtual surround is worthless.
If you are setting up your first home theatre is would not recommend getting anything expensive.
There are a few things you need to consider:
At least 1 of each digital input (optical + coax)
Subwoofer (powered is prefered)
5.1 analog inputs (good to have)
Dolby Digital and DTS decoding
I highly recommend this system for beginners:

You should look for the above in any system you puchase.

Please please don't buy Bose. They suck i had Bose and untill i heard floor standing speakers i was like bose is great. i actaully opened a bose speaker and all they have is a tweater and Bose tries to produce all teh sound from the sub. That is so wrong.
My friend and i did a lot of reasearch till we got the following set up at his place.
Dennon receiver (7.1) 5.1 is ok.
Energy (i liked them as they are real soft) speakers front 3 should be the best ones rears can be box speaker.
Velodyne sub.
The whole setup costed 1200 for us like 2 years ago.
when you buy a receiver make sure that they say 7 channel discrete.
