Is this a good deal (on a MY02 WRX wagon)?
Is this a good deal????
I have an opportunity got buy a 2002 blue WRX wagon 5 speed with 14,900 miles on it, bone stock, only factory options are the security upgrade, rear cargo tray, and hard rubber mats on top of the factory floor mats. Appears to be in pretty good condition. 2 of the rims on the right side have some scratches on it.
I might be able to get it for around $17,000, is that a good deal and would I get the balance of the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty as well as the 5/60 powertrain warranty? I will be getting it from the dealer. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a good deal to me. I was offered ~15k in TRADE-IN for my wagon that has 28k miles on it. That means they were going to sell it for at LEAST 17k.
And that one has less than half the miles on it.
Go for it, but offer them 16,500!!

if it's a dealership try to get it for 16....be willing to go up to 16.5.
If you want the warranty get them toss it in at 17k.
But be aware that you will loose warranty for parts you put on. So you will not be able to mod extensively and keep your warranty.
Like me...I want to keep my warranty so I am pretty much limited to stuff like exhaust, springs and wheels. No ecu changes....etc.
Sounds like a good deal though...my car is an 04 and it has more miles than that on it. I have over 15k. And I payd 25.7k for my car in august.
So I think you're getting a good deal so I wouldn't walk away at 17k but I bet you can get 16.5 pretty easily.

so you're saying with no knowledge of a cars history a warranty isn't a good idea?
Ok...so you save say $1500 tops...for the warranty. Probably less. But then your tranny takes a crap. That's gonna run you twice what you saved.
I'd say if he/she plans a lot of mods then the warranty is a waste. If you plan minimal mods then it's a good idea.
I got a 100k warranty for under $1800 so I'd imagine the warranty they are talking about is like $1000-1200.
I just wonder for the people who have tranny problems, how they treat their tranny? Are they always banging gears or shift the tranny smoothly and lightly like me. I had an 88 5.0 LX mustang years ago and sold it at 113K and that tranny was still as good as it was when I bought the car at 65K miles, and back then the T-5 tranny in the 5.0 were notorious for having "problems"

stock is fine, but you don't know if the previous owner abused it or not. You also don't know if the owner modded the car or not and returned it back to stock. Usually the tranny gives away when people start modding it for more hp.

935 miles, auto dimming mirror, extended armrest, tint, uh, it's kind of a long list... it's nice though. It was totally perfect until some jackass got my front bumper. On the day I registered it... grrrr
