Going up to tahoe with summer tires
Going too slow can be way more of a problem than faster drivers. You get a bunch of newbs who suck at driving and they pile up 50 cars traveling down the road all 6 inches from each other. the people who can't get out of their own way are the real dangers.
main thing to remember in snow is you can't stop quickly.

Don't take my word on it, but... I have driven from the bay to wyoming and back in the middle of january running some falken summer performance, and without fail @ -40 F. Lowering your psi in the tires to 25 or so will greatly improve your footprint and provide more traction. Your tires might jacked up as far as performing again on dry conditions, but I never really noticed. The main thing to be carefull about is going downhill on crap tires. Try to do as much trans braking as possibly, no matter what tires, that will slow you down much faster than the crap traction control. Again don't take my word on it, but it is possible just to make a point, and unless you have a ton of experience driving on ice and snow, don't try it.
I also have some Azenis, so I was looking for some feedback from people who have driven them on snow/ice/cold condition. -40F that seems a lot my friend.
ie. dont do it. you'll get into an accident and likely hurt someone else in the process.
this thread is peppered with examples of people on summer tires in snowy/icy conditions. since Azenis' are summer tires also, you can expect the results will be similar if not the same. if a=b, and b=c, then a=c. cmon people we all cant be this stupid.

Seriously, I grew up in the area. Just don't come if you aren't going to be responsible about it. 1) I don't want to get stuck in a 5 hr traffic jam because you cause an accident that blocks the road, and 2) I don't want to see anyone get hurt or die because of an irresponsible driver. Being irresponsible includes not have the proper equipment on your car.
One of the coaches on my old ski team (who had YEARS of experience driving in the snow, a properly equipped vehicle, and was driving safely) hit black ice one day and had to be airlifted to Washoe Co hospital. For an entire week we were not sure if he was going to make it because his injuries were so bad. He did make it, but he will have to deal with some of his injuries for the rest of his life and now has a speech impediment. I can only imagine how much worse it would have been had he been driving on summer tires.... I think he would not be with us today.
Just play it safe. Really, that is all.
*steps off soap box*
another example: i was going up HWY50 in a snow storm. I see some douch3 in his Porsche Boxster (rear wheel drive, no 4S here) behind me tailgating in traffic, let me re-iterate, in a snow storm. So I pull to the side and let him go, dont want him to pressure me, in a snow storm. I assume, "oh, dude's gotta have snow tires and knows what he's doing, why else would he be driving that fast." Five minutes later I see dude crashed sideways into the snow bank and stuck, hazards on and everything. STUPID.
there should be some kind of winter driver's safety sticky. every year we have this same question with the same discussion. although, it doesnt get old with how we tell people not to do it. i'm sure alot of us get a kick out of that.

Yes, this is my only contribution to the discussion b/c it seems like my input to the question wouldn't have been a sufficient
. It took way too many responses & tales to realize "Oh, so you're y'all are saying that I shouldn't do it."
