Red face Getting Hell for the STi Wing

The other day someone I respect was asking me what the wing on my car is for. She said:

"What is that thing?" "Is that some sort of fashion statement?"

And so forth.

I have an 03 WRX with a whole boatload of mods. I got the wing for fun. I like it. But I didn't really know how to respond to that.

I used to autocross regularly (not yet in CA), I like to take spirited drives in the hills every now and then, but I'm mostly a mature, sedate driver and I follow most speed limit signs. I'm not a street racing punk. Anyway, she clearly thinks that the wing doesn't fit my image.

What do you guys do when asked questions like this?

I said "someone I respect".

One time a coworker made fun of the wing while we were driving to lunch. I dropped it into second and rocketed off. He was screaming like a girl. That was a good enough comeback, but not an option in this new case.

Seems like you answered your own question. My gf hates my bronze wheels and is embarassed whenever I waive to other subies...I guess every one is entitled to their own opinions and you can't expect people to agree with your taste all the time. The STi wing is big and it stands out...some people will hate it and others will ask where you bought it!!!

I had a friend who ridiculed me for getting a "rice rocket" ('04 STi). She always talked crap about it, always. Until the day I gave her a ride in it; I think "cargasm" about sums it up.

As for your wing answer, you already have it as mbquarts pointed out. If you like it, got for the fun of it, tell her.

Exactly. Theres no reason to be ashamed if you like the way it looks. I have one too, and love it. No, my car isn't and STi, nor do I streetrace. I just think it looks nice, and thats all the jsutication needed.

+1 though I don't have an STI wing or a wing at all but I was contimplating it because I like the way it looks. I don't take rude comments about my cars (aka.. my Z's headlight covers) to heart

LMAO! not to mention, she would never stop waving, considering just about every 3rd car you see is a Honda. LOL

-Ted

P.S. I would have to agree with what the others have said.....just tell her you got it cuz you like it, and if she doesnt like it, well, thats just a difference of opinion, everyone is entitled to theirs, (Doesn't mean its right though ) and just make her drive everywhere you guys go.

teabagging is something only guys can do (******* being the prerequisite) but it can be done to anyone. hell, you could go do it to the family dog if you feel like it.
