Cheer up guys, we still pay less than most other people do in other countries....

 

Not most other countries, but there are many. $1.70 a gallon for 95 in Malaysia, $1.60 a gallon for 93 in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, although it was about $2.80 a gallong in Cambodia. Chine is about $1.50 a gallon right now, well as of last month when I was adventuring(I kept track of gas prices on my PDA)

 

we still don't pay as much as they do per liter in europe.

 

But I bet Thailand, Vietnam etc. don't have $36k p.a. average salary per capita.

I'm pretty sure that, relative to personal income, the US has the cheapest gas prices in the world.

 

True. But the average person in most of those places makes less than $500 a year and live in bamboo and mud huts with two or three families. Only the small majority are wealthy living large in the big cities. Take Chinas massive population for example. Sure you have sprawling cities but at the same time you have millions living in what can only be described as the land time forgot. Kind of like Kentucky...lol...

In Britain for example you'd be paying the equivalent of about US$5.44 per gallon for regular. This is a place that has comparable income and quality of life as we do.

i drove by the gas station i go to and theyre charging 2.97. i used to pay 2.83 for 91 octane

Its getting all crazy again. Prices always spike for labor day weekend. What a pricing conspiracy. $3.50 in september? That would really suck.

Actually, thanks American way of living. Next time you eat your cheerios, keep in mind that oil turns the wheels in the factories that make the cheerios, the trucks that deliver it, the workers that work there, and us that drive to the store and buy it. (i'm not directing this at you Silver Mojo...just making discussion)

Every single facet of our economy and lifestyles in the states is very well dependent on oil and our demand is on a consistent curve upwards while there are no new refineries in the US being built (not sure overseas).

Either way, while it seems like it hurts our wallets, we can support the higher prices...in fact, we would have to support the price no matter what it is, because we have no choice not to.

$6/gallon by 2007? Probably......

 

Right now we'd need to have it between $5 and $6 -that is, if we were to be paying what most of the rest of the world pays for gas.

The thing that gets me is that it should be obvious to any idiot that supplies are diminishing and sometime in the not too distant future humans- not just the US, will need to find an alternative to petroleum for lots of things.

So we should have an energy policy that gives tax credits for development of renewable fuels and solar power.

Instead the ****** in congress just passed an energy bill that gives something like 14billion to the oil and nuke power companies to stay the course.

And while we've got our national guard protecting Iraqi oil fields, our forests are burning out of control, and the oil companies are reporting record profits.

 

There may be some good in this. Some of those people who were planning to go buy a Ford Exploder or Hummer H2 for their 1 person commute might think twice about it now.

I've been debating getting a Ninja 250 for regular commute. Those things get 50+ mpg and you can lane-share.

 

Yea, I'm thinking about ditching my car entirely and getting a motorcycle or even a scooter..haha...

I have a 3 mile commute to work everyday and can take side streets to get here.

 

But keep in mind in the UK they pay $6.00 to $9.00 a gallon.. I am bad on the conversions, but it is way up there...
I am still crying over it, and I don't want to put anything less than 91 in my car. I just won't drive anywhere unless I have to.

 

At the same time, I don't wanna pay $5-$6/gal to try to convince SUV owners to not be stupid. I could REALLY use a full size truck for what I am doing now, but after borrowing my Pop's Dodge (with a lowly 318) for 2 week fark that!! I too am gonna be back on a bike soon - even my old FXD got around 50mpg.

I lived in the UK for about 2 years so I have had my fair share of crazy gas prices. Also, living in Hawaii - I just filled up the RS at $3.13/gal yesterday. Nice.
