Fuel smell, Shops that work with warranty. (northbay)
So this fuel smell coming from my car is still going on. Ive inspected everything I can see, but i think it keeps coming from the fuel fill/charcoal canister area (back rear end). So with my smog coming up I wanna make sure its fixed so I dont fail smog. The leak isnt enough to give me a gas cap cel, but when I take off the gas cap to fill up there is no pressure release.
My question is other than going to the dealership, the one up here is terrible, is there any shops that will work with my extended vehicle coverage. I have coverage through USAA, and it covers everything the same as a subaru warranty including emissions/fuel system. I just want to know if there are any recommended shops. FLI doesnt or they prefer not to based on experience with other companies they have dealt with. Does LIC or does anyone have any shop they recommend. I have no idea how major the work will be, could be a simple hose change or they could be smokin the whole evap system. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I pretty much never have a pressure release when I open my gas cap.
If you're looking for a warranty supported shop call USAA and ask them to email you a list. If you're directly looking at LIC.... call them.
None of us are going to be able to answer what shops your warranty supports or what LIC does any better than those people are. Pick up the phone.

LIC doesnt do that type of work but that sok, i can understand. On the road trip I just took i noticed the B9 doesnt do the pressure release either.
I will have to talk to USAA again because all they told me was the shop needed to be licensed/bonded/insured and they would approve payment to whatever shop met their pre reqs.
Kevoscoob- I have been hunting said issue down for months, asked around at a few shops, no one seems to have an idea as this is not a common problem. However the couple guys that said they have had a similar issue have been 06's. Coincidental probably, and looks like you have an 06 sti so maybe we have something here, i dunno. I just have a feeling im gonna fail smog with this issue.
I have been told to check everything from the charcoal canister (which is in the vicinity of the smell) to possibly having to get the whole system "smoked" to find the leak. I am not to heavily modded and I find it hard to believe that my intake or exhaust would contribute to this problem as I have had it on the car for almost the whole time ive owned it, and the smell is a recent problem.
Any help is still appreciated, and I will try to keep people posted if I find out what it is

we offer most everything relating to Subaru's...just no warranty work (factory warranty is performed by a dealer. Outside warranties must be done by a company that accepts those companies/warranty work).

If you want the job done RIGHT, the FIRST time, skip the warranty and take it to LIC Motorsports. They'll diagnose it, and fix the problem.
If you don't give a damn, then take it to Hansel Subaru in Santa Rosa - although YMMV.

Little more info. Is it coming from inside the car at all or only outside near the canister/bumper?
If outside, get your tank smoke tested to make sure the filler neck or fuel vapor lines arent leaking.
If inside check the fuel pump gasket
