Personally I think it's losing its losing it's racist connatations with time.. it's not suprising that most on here weren't aware of it being a racial slur from an earlier generation because it sounds no different to others being called Brits, Aussies etc...
I think in a generation or two it'll be a harmless term, but with WW2 still fresh in the minds of the older generations it still has a somewhat negative vibe when used by Grandpa..
But I think, coming from generation X, Y & Zers it is meant harmlessly and without any disrespect.. especially on this board where we all look to Japan for kick *** vehicles..

And yes, I do have friends who have grandpas who are still totally racist and use racist terms. The VAST majority of us (especially here in California) do not perceive the words like *** to have a negative connotation. The sheer stupidity is that it's the very people who are offended by the term are the ones creating the negative connotation on the otherwise totally standard word. A word that normal people would otherwise not take offense to. Make sense?
