Front windshield replacment positive/negative experiences?

I need to replace my glass and was wondering about quality and so on, dealer vs. independent. I already know the cost is like 3x cheaper at independents but does that imply that the quality is any less?

If you have any tips, please reply.

Thanks.

Get PPG glass if you go independent. Also take a look at the installers working on other cars. Make sure they use clean rubber gloves when working with the glass... the oils in their skin will cause issues with the adheasive.

I take it you can specify PPG glass? Any thoughts on those mobile services?

The main web search winner is 89 glass or something like that. They're running some special starting at $305 for my fitment coming out of Redwood City. Still not sure if I want to bite the bullet for the $900 dealer OEM version. It seemed to crack so easily...

Ok, Dont know about all these technicalities, However my windshield is broken also, and I have to get it fixed soon cause I got two tickets already, now from my shopping around, I sound one place ghetto as all hell gave me a quote for 140 installed, now this place is around the corner from MPJ "AutoGlass" the otherone is a guy I met when one of my Co Workers got his replaced on his 03 WRX. He offered 200 cash OEM for the higher model from subby which is supposedly a bit darker (bairly noticable tint) installed. If you wanna call go ahead but if he doesnt give you the 200 price then PM me and I will talk to him myself however when you call him dont mention me, I sort of want to see if he gave me a playa playa price or not. Also If we get serious im sure a lot of peeps on here can use a windshield since ours for some reason love to crack I will set up a group buy and he will come to one of our meets. k his number is 408-690-9480 hes a nice guy and unfortunatly I dont know his name but that is his cellular.

you guys should check your comprehensive deductable, that is what you will pay. if it's about the same as an independent, go to the dealership. your insurance company will recommend some company but you can take it anywhere.

I need new glass too. And, I know of 2 other people that need it.

How about someone arrange a group buy and group install of the PPG glass by some professional?

That would be cool.
