Freakish "body" damage at autocross yesterday...
So, had fun at the SCCA autocross yesterday. Only "issue" is that I had major conage on my first run. Hit a "wall" of cones with the front right of the car in one of the sweepers on my first run.
Well, the cones did more damage than I thought
. Evidently, they got in there and the impact knocked out all of those plastic "pins" that hold the front of the plastic inner fender to the bottom of the front bumper.
Not an issue AT the autocross, but on the way home this plastic fender (now not held in tightly) caught air on the freeway and bent down. Net result : it MELTED where it was rubbing the pavement and front tire
. I have a very cool looking "show and tell" piece for UCKK this week
Been running AutoX for 6 years now, this is the first "part permanently modifying" damage I've done
Got under the car when I got home (which is when I noticed this), and cut away enough of the plastic inner fender so it wouldn't rub the ground or anything else. Can't see a thing from "outside" the car, but man it looks horrible from UNDER the car
At any rate, see my post in the classifieds if you have this part available. Otherwise, I'll order it from the dealer if no one speaks up in the next day or 2.

That does sound freakish, but you should'a left those poor cones alone in the first place.
You should show us some pics here for the UKCC-challenged.
What an awsome course! One again Candlestick gave us a 'fast as you dare' course. In fun runs Leo and I both got down into the mid-62.xx's. I was getting incredible grip, especially for a stock suspension.

Man I had NO grip out there.
Could have something to do with my co-driver practically melting my front tires though.
The wheel is supposed to be straight before you floor it! haah
Interesting casualty there Ed. Hopefully it doesn't cost you too much to fix..

Thinking this won't be too bad to fix.
BTW, best I could manage is 63.2xx. Felt like there was a lot more speed/time out there on that course, but I was having trouble finding it. I think my right foot was afraid of the gas pedal or something

There was more time out there. I think my best time that counted was like a 63.4xx, but it was difficult to keep that right foot mashed on the gas.
I was over heating my Azenis and my brakes in fun-runs since there wasn't really any cool down between runs.

Hey Ed, I'm missing that piece on my car as well. Mine didn't melt though as it rubbed on the freeway. Mine ripped right off, shreding my fender liner with it since they are connected. I bet my underside looks worse than yours. We can compare at UCKK.
I saw a similar thing a couple of years ago. A guy had brought out his brand new Merc SLK. I got talking to him about the car, and had a sit in it. On one of his runs, a cone went up inside the front wheel-arch and ripped out the liner from the fixings. He was very philosphical about it as we pulled the torn remains out. I guess he wasn't short of a few $$s to fix it, but it was still a bummer to see a new car get damaged.

Hey Lorry, what-up?
We were talking yesterday about how we hadn't seen you and Tim in a long time. Ski season is going to be over before too long. D Stock has had a pretty good turn out the last several events. It would be good to habe you guys out again. You don't want to fall too far behind in the points

I've been doing lotsa skiing this year: 8 weekends + 2 whole weeks in Europe. My last scheduled trip is 20-21 March which, unfortunately, coincides with the next round.
I'm getting really desperate to chuck the car around again, but I think that round 5 (4th April) will be the first that I can make. I dunno about Tim though. He's getting married and is all luvved up. His wedding is on 3rd April so I'm guessing he won't make the April 4th round

So, in other news... I hear ChrisW is a fickle traitor!
Anyhow... I miss the autoxes, maybe I'll try and visit everyone on Sunday the 4th.
