We do pay our promoters, thats only if the promoter has a specific number of flyer come back's. Meaning on the day of the event, if the promoter handed out flyers, whom ever he/she handed it brings it to the event to the ticketing booth.
After the event is over we count how many flyer come backs we get from our promoters. And the number of flyer-come backs amount is kept confindental.

I do not think promoters get in for free, I could be wrong, but I've been doing some promotions for the event and have yet to hear about that. However I am not looking for any perks really. I just know a lot of people who like these events and are either A) too lazy to google them, B) ask me all the time, and C) simply are not in the loop on such events. I figure why not pass a some fliers out, help out an event I personally love, and overall spread the word so this thing can keep rolling. Win Win!
Far as general promotions is concerned, I've done several large scale events, mostly Club/Rave/BBoy Battles, and I can tell you it is very hard to hook up the promoters. Usually we'd provide a "plus 1" factor but it can get tricky considering people do take thousands of flyers and simply dump them in the trash while hoping to get some perks. I am not saying that is happening here but I do understand why promotion codes are added and so forth. Most events I've thrown have been paid promoters but these are people I've gained a working relationship with who would spend Friday - Sunday working all the clubs and so forth. Regardless of duration, It is nice to hook them up though so usually we'd send them in for free.
Speaking of keeping tabs, the flyers do have a promotion code which you can mark off. However to be honest it would takes a fair amount of time to do unless you knew for a fact the people who have the fliers will turn them in. These flyers do take off "$2" from the entry fee if tickets are purchased at the event, not sure if that applies online. I find that most people tend to keep the fliers but that does depend on the person. Mix that with people purchasing online and it provides little help for the pay aspect, unless you tell people to turn them in.
