Car Info: 02 WRX sedan
All USDM turbo 2.5 pistons are hypereutectic cast, but rods are forged.

C&D or any magazine is not always a good source of info. I also read one that said a WRX would get better mileage going uphill in 5th, but my logs up the Sunol grade without a doubt demonstrate otherwise. They're definitely not right all the time. I guess they're humans.

The head chambers are a little different on the EJ255, and so is the piston dish volume. The end result is a slightly higher compression ratio on the 255 than the 257. Cams are the same as far as I know.

Block stamp is EJ25 for all of them.
Head stamp is D25 for single AVCS EJ255; V25 or B25 for single AVCS EJ257 depending on year.

Also, not sure why you'd use an 04STi ECU when you could have a custom tune on your FXT ECU for around the same price.

my 04 FXT motor would beg to differ - EJ25 block stamp, B25 head stamps. Same internals, same cams, same heads, and therefore same compression ratio (8.2:1) as an 04-06 STi.

The FXT was given a different ecu because it does have a smaller turbo and intercooler, and yes, you do need to accommodate for different load points in the tune relative to the number of gears in the transmission. Call and talk to Miles or Ryan at FLI - they'll talk your ears off about this stuff in the best possible way.

seriously, OP, PM me if you want the real scoop.

Buzz man, the pistons are not the same on our FXT. The 04-05 came with a piston that had a 2cc differnce in the dome shape, resulting in a slightly higher compression than the STI 8.2:1.

There is a whole writeup on it over on that other "subaru" fourm...you know the one that shall not be named.
