and it says "intercoolers" not Front mount specifically so I'm sure they will look for the OEM intercooler no matter where it's located

no, i had my 34 in mine when i went in for ref.

if you were going in for ref, id recommend putting back the tmic if youre running fmic, but i have heard from others that they left the front mount core and had their tmic and passed. guess it all depends on the tech.

nahh i just did mine in sac at arc it passed the smog emissions but not the visual i was rokn the big 16g i told him stock turbo and he bought it fmic+perrin inlet+ left the steel braided intercooler sprayer line running from trunk to hood, the tech tells me hey you need to get rid of that nitrus line LOL i laughed when he told me but then got hella pissed when he told me that was one reasons i didnt pass

I can't imagine they would really even notice. Your engine bay probably looks really clean and its all "OEM" stuff really, I don't think there would be a problem

I've been thinking of a custom plastic cover that will conceal all 'areas of interest'.

Its the same 2.5L turbo'd motor. I was poking around under the hood of a guys Forester I was installing a suspension in. Other than clearance at the back to the STi TMIC, it looks like it should go in cleanly.

the intercooler reference in the OP pertains to replacement of OEM in stock locations,FMIC is a fail.

the refs have some upcomming updates, with turbo ID guides, alot can and do spot aftermarket turbo's allready,so your rolling the dice.

by law as a smog tech or a ref is required to remove plastic engine covers,if you make a cover we remove it or you will have to. some techs in the field will risk thier careers by being lazy and not removing them.
