flashing lights in dash

I have a 2008 impreza 2.5, auto. When I turned it on the curvy car, check engine, cruise, and sport lights all came on and were flashing. I turned of the car a couple times and still on. I then removed the - wire on batttery and when I turned on the car they were gone. I'm glad there gone but what could it have been?

IMO... shouldnt have removed the (-) wire from the battery, next time that happens use a scanner to see what the CEL codes were. Might also be helpful to check the manual and see what those other dashlights could have indicated.

I don't have a scanner but I drove the car for like 20 min afterwards and it was fine. I did go through some small puddles yesterday. Maybe water got somewhere?

thanks for the answers. If it happens again I guess I will have to scan it. Seems a bit early for malfunctioning catalytic converter though.

When ever the check engine light goes on, the cruise flashes. I'm not 100% sure on the 08+, but the sport light may blink too. It may have been something related to the puddle but it could be completely unrelated. I know that on the 02-07 if the check engine light blinks its worse than if its steady burning.

If the light comes back on get it checked by a member or a shop.

It's not a Suby, but my E30 was flashing the check engine, battery, brake sensor, brake, and oil lights in the dash. It was due to my alternator dying and my battery losing charge

battery light is the key indicator there. Same thing in my old 2.5RS
