It was completely empty and I saw one car 1 or 2 traffic lights behind me. As the car caught up, I thought no big deal considering the circumstances.
Thats what I'm afraid of, most CHP either pace or use laser.

The only solution is to 'double up' on protection, pretty expensive solution though.

If any of you know the area I am talking about in Vacaville, he was perched in the dark at Pena Adobe onramp, and caught up to me before the Davis street exit (theres only one exit between Pena adobe and Davis street). I was going 91mph so he got on it quick. I took Peabody exit which is after Davis street.

I ALWAYS look in my mirrors. I am constantly shifting my eyes back and forth because I watch out for motorcycles coming up behind me or any other driver. I ALWAYS look at the onramps when I pass them if I am speeding and I did not see his lights on at Pena Adobe.

I know I should have slowed down right away, but he literally got behind me in the fast lane, I shifted over one lane, then another, then the slow lane... gradually slowing down as I changed lanes.

My first thought was that the car was on my *** hardcore all of a sudden so thats why I got over... then I took a better look at the headlights and I knew I was done.

No problem so far. From what I remember, they are legal in all states except Virginia correct me if I'm wrong.

I got pulled over once for speeding while having two radar detectors on my windshield. I was speeding a few second(changed lane) then I saw the cop in the rear view mirror, about 10 car lengths. The radar detectors didn't go off. I let off the gas then started move to the right lane since I was going to exit the highway. Police sped up and pulled me over.
He asked me if detectors are working and if they are laser jammer. I said they are not laser jammer and probably not working since it didn't go off. He went back to his car with my license and registration. Few seconds later, both of the radar detector went on full blast. He came back and told me to drive safe.
The radar detectors are Escort 9500ix and V1. My girlfriend bought me the V1 and I wanted to see if Escort is better with the GPS. I kept V1 in the end for the range and direction. Somehow the Escort started to falling apart within 30 days, never dropped.

Second time wasn't pulled over, but quite interesting. I was in the inner lane passing a car slowly with less than 70mph then the V1 went on with Ka band. I checked my mirror and saw a car about 1/2 mile behind me, then I change back to the middle lane(didn't pass the car). It was at night and I couldn't tell if it was cop. The car sped up and kept same speed on my driver side blind spot for about half minute then moved behind me. He probably saw my radar detector when he moved behind, and he started to turn his radar on and off for like 1-2 miles then exit the highway.

Nice job. Good to hear this. I wish some chp were that civilized when I had my encounter with them.

There is no reason to not have a detector. Buy a good one. One that will alert you when there is something to detect. Personally The Bell RX-65 Pro has served me very well. False alarms are non-existent. When it goes off you've got fuzz. Don't rely on them for 100% of your detection. It's a tool. Fortunately there are a number of other tools at your disposal. Observe, be alert, don't push it.

This is great advice. I also feel that on really long drives, the detector helps keep you attentive and engaged in the driving experience.

I haven't gotten a ticket for speeding in roughly 5 years since I installed a V1. It's warned me countless times of KA band & "Lidar" and saved my bacon a few times. One time was shortly after I installed it - coming up north on 99 toward Yuba City, a Caddy CTS flew by me while I was going maybe 70-80. He rounded a sweeping left, then went out of my sight... all of a sudden, KA band pops & stays lit, so I slow down & round the same curve to see him pulled over with CHP just getting out of his car.

I always have mine running, but I did get pulled over once due to simply doing something dumb in the dark before dawn (around 5am). I was coming up a bridge that has a left curve to it before dropping back down. I saw headlights 1/4 mile behind, but paid no mind, accelerating on the bridge to the highway speed, then beyond. I put probably a mile or more between me & the headlights, passing a couple slower vehicles. Then, the headlights pop out from behind those slower vehicles & start getting closer very quickly. I let off the throttle, but he lit me up, so I pulled over on the next ramp. He never ran radar or anything, but said I was pulling pretty hard on the bridge, and that's what made him follow. He let me off with a "keep it legal", but it taught me to never enter a roadway during the dark hours, when I can't see the vehicles behind me clearly, and throttle up before making sure I knew who/what was behind & ahead of me.

I have had a radar detector for about 4 years and have had NO speeding tickets... made it through the 01 RS, 07 WRX, 04 STI with 320whp, and 08 STi with a cruising speed of about 80mph on the interstate.

I wouldn't hide it. Why would I? It might help to keep them honest. I had an officer who paced me joke about the RD, but he let me off with a warning. But then again I have gotten out of at least 5 speeding tickets in those past four years by doing what Robin did.

Windows down, lights on, hands on wheel, keys on dash with car off, and a very positive attitude towards the officer with the utmost respect.

+1 for how you dealt with it Robin. Glad to see you owned it unlike a lot of people on here who try to sue the cops lol.

Ya, the "Windows down, lights on, hands on wheel, keys on dash with car off, and a very positive attitude towards the officer with the utmost respect." thing has never worked for me, so now I just tell them to write me a ticket or **** off.

But seriously...

I had 1 ticket with my Escort 8500. I assume it was because the CHP was about 5 feet off the bumper of a pickup truck going the other way, and the detector could not detect the beam until I was almost on top of him.

Yeah Steven, there is really no reason for me to be mad about it. As far as I am concerned, the ticket was long overdue. It was a reminder to slow down. If I was going 80 I doubt he would have pulled me over, but I was going way to fast.

Anyways, hows life man? I havent talked to you in ages.

of course you hide your radar detector once pulled over. If i were a cop, i would never let someone off with a warning if i saw one of those in their windshield. hail no.
