Do you have to use Outlook for your email? Eek indeed.

"Upgrade" to PCs? Are they installing Linux on them or something? Try to talk them into upgrading to some G5s!
What's safari? How do you think OSX will run on a 350mhz iMac with 192 MB of RAM?

I'm about to kill myself using OS9. It is the worst OS on the worst computer ever made. Ever. My gateway with 300mhz and win98 first edition own3d the **** out of this thing. I couldn't even type on the crappy *** keyboard on the damn thing, the keys were so sticky. And the mouse... i think that think is made for people with nubs instead of hands (no offense to the handicapped.) Slow *** thing with one huge, loud, crappy button. I think those things were made for retarded octopusses. Although octopi are pretty smart so they could probably do most of the calculations that computer can do in their head. Oh and did I mention that it only crashed 6 times today? Running a grand total of THREE programs?!?!

Sheesh, deep breaths are good. At least the people I'll be working with are reasonably cool, and there is at least one h0tti3. We'll see how she performs. In the janitors closet.

Apple's own browser. It kicks. I used Mozilla on my wife's powerbook until Safari got tabbed browsing -- Safari's a pretty small and fast browser, much faster than Mozilla and most of the same functionality. IE is dead on that platform now.

I think probably you will want more memory. Consider Crucial.com, I've had good luck with them.

My wife had an old G3 powerbook running OS X for a while, I don't know how fast. It did ok, she was able to crash it occasionally, but occasionally was like once a month. I have a coworker that has a G3 iBook with OS X, and she complains less as time goes by. I think it helped a lot when she got more memory.

My wife says some of the old iMacs at work are dealing with the newest version (Panther?) better than previous versions. But I don't know how old/slow of iMacs she's talking about.

Finally, I have another coworker who got one of the first iMacs at a garage sale recently and was going to try and run OS X on it, I have a meeting with him tomorrow, I'll ask how that's working if I remember.

And the mouse...
OS X supports just about any USB mouse you want to plug into it. Even that stupid 5 button 2 scroll wheel mouse I got on sale at Target!

I can't keep track of all these cats.

To add, my wife did tell me a coworker's home iMac completely ceased to function after he tried to install OS X, but that was a while ago.

well that's comforting. today i upgraded from 9.0 to 9.1 to 9.2.1 to 9.2.2 in preparation of X. the it guy had 4 extra sticks of (PC100) memory that he thought one of which was a 128MB stick. it turned out they were all 64MB, so if i'm gonna do it, i'm gonna do it on 128MB and i don't foresee that as being a great idea. which pisses me off because i f**cking HATE this goddam imac. it has SO many little stupid things missing that XP has in EVERY program that it's killing me. anywho, you can't get safari to run on OS9 can you?
