Firefighter shoots at cyclist... gets 4 months.

http://www.citizen-times.com/article...clist-is-light

4 months? REALLY? Guy was riding with his wife and 4 year old, FF pulls over to tell him that riding with a kid on the bike is unsafe, shoots him in the helmet and got 4 months.

4 months.

For shooting at a guy.

4 months.

1)no one died
2)I suspect there is a HELL of a lot more to the story, that article is seriously biased.
3)I am willing the cyclist lied to cover his own ***.

that said, I don't approve of pulling a firearm out unless your life is in danger (or the lives of others) but, again I point out there is no way that's the whole story.

I read the news article and it sounded like a road rage argument where the cyclist walked straight at the firefighter who was parked at the time. Apparently the argument escalated to a point where the firefighter pointed a gun at the cyclist and the cyclist just walked him down.

That's really ballsy. Why take the risk? If you're having a heated argument with someone you don't know and they point a gun at you.... why would you walk toward them and get in their face?

Not trying to say he deserved to get shot at, but I definately don't recommend instigating a situation further with someone who obviously wants to get the last word.

For a firefighter to pull a gun over an argument is way over the top. That's like you sitting there minding your own business with your family, someone telling you, how to raise/treat your child. And when you tell them no, they insist and you get aggravated.

I would have stood up for my family and my honor. And honestly, It shows how much of a coward you are to pull a gun on an unarmed man.

Regardless of all the tiny details or what not left out.

1. If you are a firefighter you are a some-what icon to your community, In this you must act as a role model... and I don't see how pulling a gun on ANYONE during an ARGUMENT is anything close to that.

2. When you choose to approach a family (father) and tell him he's not raising his kids right, or treating them right, or keeping them safe etc - You are asking for a problem, In what world do people think (short of an abusive family) they have a right to dictate how or what you teach / allow your children to do. I believe not wearing a helmet is not as life threatening as to have a gun pulled on you when you decline.

3. 4 months for assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder(2nd degree, because it's not pre-meditative)? WTF? I wonder how much of the judge's dick he sucked to get that sentence. This goes to show the bias of the court system... It's never been about what's just or right, It always seems to be about who you know or how much money you have. It's truly disappointing.

I hope his sentence gets extended 10 fold.

Umm. Screw the Firefighter, he should be in jail.

Hilarious how a cop shoots a father with his SON right there. Our court system sucks, this ho needs to die. IMAGINE that, a Dad taking his son out on a bike ride, that sounds healthy to me

wow. May that firefighter be struck down with cancer, and his children become infertile.

Any hate directed at cyclists on public roadways makes me sick, and those who participate in it can sit and spin.

although im sure there's more to the story that guy was definitely in the wrong. the title of firefighter follows you everywhere no matter where you are or what you're doing. he lost his privilege of being a firefighter after that incident which is about right. he could have saved many lives and been a great guy but he did screw up and i'm sure he's regretting it every minute.

for every 1 story there is of a firefighter doing something negative like this there must be hundreds of firefighters doing something positive.

glad no one ended up seriously hurt.

i agree that even pulling out your gun is way overboard in that situation. but the firefighter lost more than we can even guess by his actions already.
first his reputation is ****
he has no job, and never will again in fire/police/government
he has no pension anymore
his kids, if he has any will probably lose respect for thier own father

Maybe if cyclists didn't act like doushbag little ****s who think they own the road and can ride how and where they want, counter to the law. There might not be as much anger pointed at them...

But your post just proves my point, and why I ****ing HATE cyclists.

Now, most of you sit here and armchair quarterback this, but you were not put in the situation. Perhaps the "father" was endangering his child, perhaps the kid didn't even have a helmet on.

On top of that, what went down? If it had been me (not that I would have bothered to stop the father in the first place, not my concern) and for some reason the argument escalated, and the father threatened me with physical harm as he advanced on me, I too would draw my weapon, extend one hand and order him to stop.

Now here is where my problem comes in, why did the fireman discharge his weapon. Clearly by the findings of the court, he must have had reason, or they would have charged him with much much more than they did. I suspect the cyclist had a weapon, or was making direct death threats. Again its a stupid situation that the fireman shouldn't have been in the first damn place.

Just another reason to remind people... MIND YOUR OWN, DON'T GET IN OTHER PEOPLES AFFAIRS.

Diez could've gotten 20-39 months, but with a “mitigating factors” including good character, a solid military service record and a positive employment history — and no previous criminal record — he qualified for the lesser sentence.
Cool, so as long as you did honorable stuff in the past, you can do bat**** crazy stuff in the present and get away with a slap on the wrist?

You can't really apply specifics to a situation when in the same sentence you say "you were not put in the situation."

An ACTIVE FIREFIGHTER should be able to take down an advancing man without the use of a gun.
