Car Info: A limousine with a chauffer
Body shop called this morning - they're painting the car today. Should be ready to rock and roll by Monday.
One thing that they mentioned is that due to the texturing and material on the side skirts, that they wouldn't be able to paint it because they were worried about how it would end up looking now and in the long run.
For those of you with painted side skirts, did you buy the pre-painted ones and do a color change, or sand the stocks?
Thanks.

My shop sanded the stocks, and while there is still a small amount of texture that you can see up close, they did a pretty good job with the primer that they filled up most of it.
They also painted the rubber strip for me, so the whole side skirt assembly is web.

Don't know how I'll get to the meet on Saturday, I might ask for a ride, but we'll see...
Well i had it painted along with a grill, mirrors (keyed) and my fog covers.......i think i paid 250 for all of it since we've used the same body shop for 5 years. Its been painted for almost a year now i think, and the only visible damage to it is a scrape that i made, and you can totally see i scraped the clearcoat and not the paint, since its all white with no blue anywhere. I think they made have used some kind of slightly rubberized clearcoat, cuz its not stripping/chipping like a lot of people said it would.

get them painted get them painted get them painted.
If they are painting your car but won't do your side skirts they are bastards.
Just sand...primer...sand...then paint as normal....most of the texture is gone and the paint shouldn't chip from anything that wouldn't chip a factory painted one....It's all about the prep...if they won't paint it they are just being lazy and don't want to do the prep work......if you have to tell them to let you in the shop for a couple hours and do the prep yourself.....

seraph....they probably just properly prepped yours.....there is also this stuff called bullfrog and I am sure body shop have a higher quality version...it's basically a sticky base coat.... makes the paint bond to plastic better.
Companies now have paint that comes with it in the mix...like krylon. but I don't think I would use krylon on my side skirts..haa.a
