1) A double acting cylinder with a 2.5" bore and a .5" rod extends through a 20" stroke while producing a 300 lb force, and retracts through the same stroke with a 500 lb force. If the extension time is 4 seconds and the retraction time is 5 seconds how much SCFM is required to power the cylinder?
Velocity=Distance/Time(5)
20 in/4 sec(5)= 25ft/min
Area=.7854(d^2)
.7854(2.5^2)=4.9 in^2
CFM=Area*Velocity/144
4.9 * 25/144 = .85 CFM
Force=Pressure*Area
300lbs/4.9=P*4.9/4.9 P=61.22 PSI
Compression Ratio (CR) = Pressure + 14.7/14.7
61.22 psi + 14.7/14.7 = 5.16
SCFM = CR * CFM
5.16 * .85 = 4.386 SCFM for the extension side
Repeat for retraction side - the rod
Answer is 9.707 SCFM

In case you guys were wondering here is the answer.
