'Fantasy **** league' ended at Bay Area high school, principal says
Officials at a Bay Area high school say they are taking steps to deter the type of behavior that led to a "fantasy **** league," in which male student athletes "drafted" female students and earned points for documenting sexual activity with them.

The league at Piedmont High School was loosely modeled after popular online fantasy sports leagues, but instead of drafting athletes, male students drafted females. And the game, instead of baseball or football, was sex. And, instead of being pure fantasy, the league was quite real.

The school's principal, Richard Kitchens, sent a letter to parents last week informing them of the existence of the league and saying there was a "general recognition that over the past 5-6 years such a league has existed in one form or another as part of 'bonding' for some Varsity Teams during their seasons of sport," according to a copy of the letter posted by Piedmont Patch.

In the letter, Kitchens writes there is "a commitment from current Varsity Team members that there is none of the activity going on now (at least from this point forward)" and that one of their teachers who developed a date rape prevention assembly is "collecting personal stories from a variety of student (and adult) sources to develop a similar type assembly that addresses this issue and other related personal integrity issues."
"Afterward, facilitated structured discussions with students will occur in classes," Kitchens wrote.

In a later interview, Kitchens said he also plans to institute "sportsmanship meetings" with athletes at the beginning of each season to talk about issues of integrity and behavioral conduct.

"We've got a few irons in the fire from the school's point of view, but my whole impetus for sending out the letter was to communicate with parents some facts about what's going on," Kitchens said.

Piedmont is a small, affluent city in Alameda County surrounded by the city of Oakland.
