Failure of 17" O.Z. Superleggera

I know these are famous for bending and failing, but I have never seen a wheel fail like this before!

Yep, my wheel on my car, but I was not driving or present when this happened. It was on a test drive after a rear diff/DS replacement and went through a construction zone over a metal plate. There was a noise. Luckily no other damage.

Thats scary! Geez, and you have a good amount of sidewall on there. Good to hear nothing else got damaged and only the wheel.

wow that is horrible. OZ wheels are supposed to be like OEM grade quality and not some cheap Rota/XXR/ORWATEVARDAFAK they are. Hopefully you'll get a replacement soon!

Yeah I am thankful that the tire held the bead until the car got to the shop - could have been nasty. The fellow who was driving said it was basically just a bump on the road. I bent one of them just driving out on HWY 35 before though so, what can you do.

I am looking at a set of SSR Type-C's today. Should those be +48 offset or does anyone know? I prefer a set of '04 STi BBS but I guess so does everyone else.

Thankfully you made it out ok. its crazy that a bump can do that much damage on that wheel.

sybir over here (folsom) has a set of SSR SP1's 18's. with the price you are going to pay for 5x100 Sti BBS.. you might as well upgrade. Also to tell you, these wheels (SSR SP1) are durable and light. faces are forged and the lips are 2 pcs so should you desire the need for customization in width.. these wheels are the way to do them. just a suggestion anyway. good luck brotha.

I think they are SSR Competitions actually - the Type-C are the grey ones right? Not sure. Anyway I picked them up, they look great. These are anthracite with the polished lip.

Rotas have a far better actual track record, the internet hate is really unwarranted. This is rare for most wheels.

And forged wheels crack and fail too, SSR is no exception either.

It just happens.

Turns out this most likely happened on the Broadway exit in Burlingame off 101N. On the sharp right-hand there is a section of roadway that has been ground down and there is a large, sharp edge there. Probably temporary but watch out!
