factory speaker sizes?
hey,
I thought i'd post in the Bay Area forum because it's so great here.
Quick question:
What are the factory speaker sizes for a 2004 wrx wagon?
Front: 5 1/4
Rear: 4 This is what i'm told...
Im thinking about components in the front and prolly 50 dollar 2ways in the rear. Thanks!

Don't know if they changed it, but I have 6 1/2 in the front and 5 1/4 in the rear. You can fit larger than that in the rear, but would need to drill in the door frame or make a custom bracket. This is on a 02 sedan.

hmm... i'm having a shop do the install. They'll be ok with installing a 6 1/2? If they have to make a bracket for it and charge me a lot more... might as well go with the 5 1/4
thanks.

if you put in 6 1/2's in the front, make sure the speakers aren't too deep. If i remember right, the deepest you can fit even with spacers/adapters is 2.83 inches thick speakers, without the speaker magnet hitting the window, or the cone rubbing against the door panel.

I do not have pics of the install I did on my 2004 wagon(stupid!) but I can tell you this for sure:
you need custom spacers for front and rear.
I made my spacers from 1/2" MDF board for the front. I don't have a dremel otherwise I would have cut the 1/4" inch of metal off the rear doors to fit a speaker.
If you are buying speakers they get 6.5" for the front, 5.25" for the rear, and can buy premade spacers(don't remember where but a search here or nasioc will show you).

damn, $100 ain't too bad I guess. $40 an hour and $20 in tax, wires, screws, spacers.
My speakers came with screws, used some 12 guage? wire and some spade connectors so I didn;t have to cut the stock wires.
I spent $22 on the 1/2" MDF cut to 4 even pieces from home depot.
traced, cut, drilled and sanded the mdf spacers and put silicone between the door panel and spacer to reduce vibration noise.
as for the tweater, just unscrew the stock tweater, pull it off (its glue onn too so pry it off with a flat head screw driver) the mounting bracket, then glue/screw the new tweeter on.
I ran my cables behind the plastic and taped the cross over box to the plastic at the bottom rear of the door.
