Factory Five Kit Car
Factory Five Kit Car
Is anybody following the Factory Five kit car based on the WRX, aka 818? I'm somewhat intrigued by this project. I'm guessing the end result won't be a real head turner, but probably not as ugly if Subaru had designed it.
I'm too lazy to read through the 1000 posts on NASIOC:

Will the Subaru transmission hold up when it's only using the output for the front wheels?

My next three cars will be
Lotus Exiage
Fiat 500
and the
FF daytona 65 coupe.

Had I had the room last year I would have focused on building the 65 coupe and left the subaru alone. I'm glad I did build the subaru though.

Anybody on I-club owned a kit car? Seems like the advantages you get from having a a cool looking lightweight car wouldn't be worth giving up working windshield wipes and retractable seat belts and all the other amenities.
Maybe the 65 beetle I had with crappy wipers, fixed belts, useless heater and zero defrost, and manually adjusted drum brakes made me appreciate a modern car more.

I believe it's still in progress. They had the chassis on display at last year's SEMA.
The transmission can probably handle the power since it has been done before:

Kit cars are what you make of them. Go cheap. Get cheap.
People also have to remember that California only hands out a very small number of smog exempt certs for kit cars a year and there is a long list of people to get one.
The key to kit car building is all about what you put into it is what you get out of it.
I have in the past.

I hadn't even thought about emissions. Maybe because there is no way I could afford something like that and still live in CA since my LGT takes up the one garage parking spot we have.
