The HKS Hi-Power is a catback, which means that it does not eliminate any Catalytic converters. Therefore, it should have no problem passing the smog test as long as you aren't running an aftermarket uppipe/downpipe.

As for noise, it is loud. Catless, it is probably illegally loud (over 95db). The silencer will significantly reduce the noise, although it is still pretty loud. Passengers sitting in your back seat will probably complain about the noise.

The HKS hi power is catback ( i think ) which means that it's perfectly legal as long as you have the same uppipe/downpipe.. other words you will have to switch it out everytime you get your smog check. as for how loud it is, i think it's pretty damn loud. but what i really think is that it's the area your in (police-wise)... like cops in berkeley probably won't care about the noise level of your car. . . . but cops in dublin or "nicer" areas probably would care a lot more. It will probably be illegally loud--in most places.

----hope this helps

the hks hipower/carbon Ti has a idle dB rating of 97 db's. At 3000 rpm it's rated at about 102 or 103 dB IIRC. Neither of these are legal in california. As far as smog legal, i honestly dont think that even matter b/c sound wise, you can still get a ticket for it from a cop.

Whether or not your noise level is legal is totally irrelevant to smog inspection. If you can't pass, smog, you can't drive the car. If your car is too loud, you may get an exhaust ticket if a cop doesn't like you.

HKS makes a silencer that will reduce the sound of the exhaust to legal levels. If you are worried about exhaust tickets, get that as well.
