The yellow evos were only sold in 2003. There was no STi sold in the US in 2003, just the 02 and 03 WRX, which the evo came into dominate/compete with
The 2002 wrx was THE car to buy back then so lots of tuners/manufacturers took direct aim at knocking it off. Once they did this, subaru countered with the bigger and badder STi

I got dusted by an evo who had a plate that read "STIKLER". It was a dark metalic gray evo. The frame around the plate said 22 pounds of boost. Then we hopped on the freeway next to eachother on the on ramp and mashed. I felt like I was hitting my brakes and not the gas. That ***** was gone!!!!!!!! I dont know if his plate was accurate or not cause I drive a WRX

Remember, usually cars are released in June the year before. So an '03 Evo could have been bought in June '02, when the WRX was the best Impreza out in the US.
