it was a HD jumper, everything's up and i'm posting from a badass new computer.

the weird thing is that if i move the case itself AT ALL, the power just cuts out, and i have to wait a while before the damn thing will start up again. is there some kind of accelerometer built into the freaking power supply or is my deal screwed?

thanks for the help everyone BTW.

except you eric. lol

That beep sequence might be RAM, or an unseated processor. My setup right now is a slocket with a big fan/heatsink, and the slocket can be locked into the slot and still need to be reseated.

Pull the precessor out and renisert it, and do the same with RAM.

As for the spacers, they're not reuired with certain cases. some cases have raised standoffs already, though, in which case you need either spacers, or put plastic plugs or elctrical tape over the standoffs you're not using (so they don't short the board)

Are you sure it's not 6 seconds that it's staying on?

If it is, check under where all your pin connectors go (power, HD LED, reset switch, etc), becuase a standoff there (on most cases) is bridging your power pins formthe underside of the monitor. You trip it, then it "holds in the button" until the system shuts off, then it restarts again

hehe, took too long on my post.

Suggestion stands on checking your processor. If I bump my tower hard enough, it reboots. If I bump it harder, it shuts off, and won't restart until it cools down (contacts hit again) or I open it up and wiggle the processor assembly.

Scott's suggestion works too.
Remind me again why this guy is working on my car?

If you didnt use the stand-offs, then the motherboard is prolly grounding on the case and the circuit breaker is having to reset in the powersupply
