Engine Swap or sell....??
Alright, im trying to think this through. Ive got an 00 RS Coupe and Ive wanted to do a swap for some time now...whether its the USDM EJ20 or an STi, or whatever, doesnt matter, a turbo engine, how bout that. But, lately i have been thinking, since my RS is kinda getting up there in millage, 55K, I could sell it, Im also selling my mustang, and with both of those combined, that would be a hell of a down payment on an STi, or even an Evo...been considering either and i have actually driven an Evo. The Subaru dealership in Seaside/Monterey wont test drive the 16 STi's they have sitting around....i dunno if thats the way it is at all the Suby dealers but anyway. Ive got 2 G's saved up right now, dont have a job as I just moved to Novato, but will be getting one soon, I hope, if my school work doesnt kill me and i have enough time left over so that i could actually make some money. My parents would, im sure, help me out if i needed them to. i have several people interrested in buying my RS, so that shouldnt be a problem. I do love my RS, and would love to swap a badass motor and tranny in, or at least a RA gear set, because that would be extremely unique....but, the problem is getting the motor, tranny if possible, ECU, and harness all together and then installed....i dont have that kind of money. If i go the swap route, i know Chris and Bill at I-Speed would help me out so its not a matter of not knowing where to go. Any opinions? Thanks.
Patrick

It boils down to if you want a big project car or a new reliable one with a warranty.
And the Sub dealer in Monterey has SIXTEEN STis??!@?!#?!# Maybe they are waiting for dealer transfer? That's nuts.

Hey Patrick, i just made that decision my self. I just got rear ended pretty bad last week and was going to total my car and buy an RS and put my engine and tranny in. But i thought about it and i love my WRX more than anything and i like the lines of the body of the rex. It is up to you, since you know Chris, Bill and probably Adam who all work at I-speed, as a matter of fact Adam has a shop in Novato where he could do the swap....but like i said i love the wrx, but if you want to be unique get the conversion done...But if it was me.....HELLO WHITE W/ SILVER RIMS STI
....
IMO I would get the STI....

Unfortunately there are no more white STi's availible, or so my friend told me. I guess there weren't as many white ones and they have all been sold...which sucks cuz thats the color i would really want. Where is Adams shop in Novato?? Ive known about it but could NEVER find it?

Hi Patrick,
Actually our Novato location is currenty at 857 Sweetser ave. We are in negotiations to move around the corner and take over an old muffler shop "Jay's". Hopefully everything will work out for us. Cross your fingers
On another note: I personally hate the new wrx body lines. They are bulky and obtuse. I don't think the lines flow well at all. I love the old body style better, I pay cheaper insurance for the old style, I can go faster than the new wrx'/sti's, and most importantly... chicks love the old school style
Ok..ok I am a litle biased.
Patrick, whatever you do, just make sure you weigh out all your options. After that, just drive the car and have fun!

Haha, I hear ya Chris. Thats the same thing you have told me every time I've talked to you about it as well. And thanks for the info on where the shop is, I've looked but to no success.

Thanks for the info, that is good to know. If I do decide to go that route, I will be giving you a call. Thanks again.

I feel like I can chime in with an opinion, being that I drive an impreza outback with an ej20 swap.
The older impreza's have a much more direct feel to them, in that you feel what the car is doing. On the other end the newer wrx's are more comfortable, and a lot less direct.
The older impreza's will be easy to get into the 12's with the swap, and will also feel a lot faster due to being smaller, amongst other things.
Just depends whether your looking for a slow smooth riding wrx
, or a fun little RS

Fun little RS....i definately love to drive...its all about the feel...my suspension is pretty damn stiff right now and i wouldnt mind it stiffer to help out performance, so i definately would want to do a swap. However, I do like the new STi's. A friend has one and took me for a ride, granted that is much much different from driving it, but still, i liked it very much.

Take the things that you like about the STI and see if they can be applied to your car
For example one thing that I will be doing to my car eventually is putting in some lightweight dynamat to help reduce the road noise. Riding in a stock WRX is like driving in a bmw compared to my car

Compared to my STi, which makes me feel a little claustrophobic when driving on hammy (car-mountain space), an RS is nice and small and will fit neatly on any fun road that you can think of. The insurance would definately be a huge factor for me, but i myself didn't want to deal with any problems with my car (which is why its stock) so i didn't go for the path of a swap. With the money spent on the STi i could have had a badass bugeye STi wagon (the other hunk of metal sitting in the driveay) But if you're going to mod anyway and don't really care about a warranty, then i'd like to put down a vote for badass RS. It has huge cool factor for one, I don't think anyone would stand around and check out my STi for a second if a GC8 rolled in with an STi conversion, hell i'd jump out of my own car and start drooling all over yours. And you would definately get less attention from cops, and i'm guessing some of the racerboys out there.
