East Bay 24 Hour Fitness or Ballys?

a friend of mine just moved to fremont and hes tryin to figure out what gym he should sign up for. hes probably going to use all the clubs around the area... but hes trying to figure out which one would be the best choice as a gym and a place to check out hot chicks. hahah

I've done both.

Bally's as a corporation blows big time. Just do a simple search online and you'll see plenty of sites that have endless complaints of their suspect business practices.

24 fitness, depends on the specific gym, since many are getting old and stank, but their fees and contracts have been upfront and fair (imo).

Both offer uber hotties to check out, but pretty much most gyms have that going for it (pending on the times of the day).

Things to look for:

how crowded will it be during the hours you'll be there
how new/old are the machines
classes and how crowded and often

tell your friend good luck.

main things for me were in this order:

price
location
how crowded it gets when i ideally wanna go

I go to 24hr in fairfield and I pay $28/mo
its a fairly nice gym and never that crowded (you still have to share of course lol) but I like 24hr for the most part

bally's on fremont blvd isn't that bad. they're doing renovations right now so it's a tad cramped, but usually it's pretty well spaced-out. all of their equipment is in good shape (most of the time), and it doesn't get TOO crowded during the 5-8pm hours when most people go for the classes and stuff. I do wish they had a bit more parking though.

as far as their business practices and such, when i signed up they were still toting the offer of a 50$ cancellation fee if you didn't feel like the club was a nice fit for you. turns out they waived that without telling anyone, and through some loophole in the contract people were stuck with 2+ year contracts. I wasn't planning on cancelling so that didn't really affect me. Also this was more than 2 years ago. Most of the employees are different now, but I dono how the contracts have changed since then.

i pay 29\month, 9\month after this march.

In all truth the only reason you should sign up for club sport is if you like racquet ball/squash/swimming

bally's has a deal going on right now

just saw a recent ad in the paper for balley's - $19 down and $19 a month afterward, and if you sign up before dec. 2x?, you get a 1-year membership free for a friend or family member! sounds like one helluva deal, I would have picked balley's if I saw this promotion earlier but I went with Fitness 19 instead.

I work out at bally's. I love it. I tried 24 and it was more expensive. It worked out for my fiance and I better money wise at Ballys. seriously, **** club sport. It's nice and all. I worked for them and all it was rich snobby people and they charged up the ***.

well in fremont i'd get 24 hr, there's 3 in the area.... paseo padre open 24/7, fremont blvd. open 24hrs m-f, and in front of newpark mall open till 12...
oh and here's the break down, i go to all 3 of them regularly every week

fremont blvd/irvington - highest weights - dumb bells go to 165lbs., swimming pool/sauna/steamroom, mostly older people, hotties in around 4-7pm

paseo padre - wide open, most aerobic type classes = most girls regularly haha, most treadmills, open 24/7, no regular hottie time(atleast not that i've seen)

newpark mall - everythings in one big room, good arrangement/variety of equipment especially for chest and back workouts, hella hotties right after work hours usually 5-9pm..

well hope this helps.. haha
