I believe we had that a long time ago at the earlier UCKK meets when someone brought over a sound meter to see who had the loudest exhaust as an experiment. Which I think Tommy (porkchop)'s Kakimoto exhaust won that one. Then did it again in 2003 for the Mount Hamilton meet, but this was based off just everyone on the camp grounds listening to the cars from a distance (or up close for those who were brave enough). Someone's got it on video tape. There were a few fireballs being shoot out of the exhausts too!

from what he told me... they took the db from just a few feet away @ a 45 deg agle, 4000 rpm

but that could have been just that state ref dude.

n e 1 have a link 2 d actual state law re: db limits and testing procedure?

My Blitz exhaust and Tommy's exhaust were pretty much even. At Mt Hamilton, Dan won that with his RS, shooting fireballs.

That is the same procedure I went through. We were actually between buildings, and we have to drive it to an open space to test the DB level. The wouldn't even let me drive the car to the open space and had some student drive it.

The SEMA model provides for the testing of vehicle exhaust noise
to a standard adopted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) with an
established noise limit of 95-decibels (SAE J1169). Under the SAE
standard, a sound meter is placed 20 inches from the exhaust outlet at a 45
degree angle and the engine is revved to three quarters of maximum rated
horsepower. The highest decibel reading is then recorded.

one more thing, the sound meter is on a tripod, 8" off the ground. that link on the first post, says that their tests occured with the meter 10" off the ground.

who knows how much diff that makes.

if anyone is interested, i have a similar SPL meter those norcalevo people used.

we can setup a testing weekend like that.

and if someone has an SAE account, get the actual testing procedures. it costs $59 to download from their site...

or if anyone works for the BAR... lol...

We need someone in SoCal to do this for us. There has to be a sample of every exhaust out there withn 60 miles of any given point between O.C. and L.A. What a great tool this is.

AND don't forget the NA guys!
