Plan on taking 2 days.... my buddy did that trip a couple years back with some of his friends that moved out there.

Figure 2400 miles or so devided by say 60mph. That's like 40 hours. Now if you have a decent radar detector and don't mind risking a ticket you can put the cruise control on at 90 in most places and do fine. Chalk up to 120 or so in certain areas and make up some time.

But plan on taking 2 days. 2 guys driving. You'll both get tired at some point and both need sleep.

2-3 days sounds about right depending on how much of a rush you want to be in. A buddy and I drove from MN to CA in a Penske and it took about 2-3/4 days.

speed cameras are horse****. So sick of this crap. BOOOOOO.

I'd imagine that if you did a search on them and the states it could be found out. That would be good info to have on hand actually.

3 days min.
Unless you are already well versed in marathon driving, and are packing a case of red bull, you will find that 1000 miles in a day is a REALLY long drive. I do it occasionally going up north or back to montana, but its a lot more comfortable to split the trip.

Especially if you want to take some time on back roads, on the interstate it is possibly conceivable to pull it off inside of 48 hours, but if you want to have any fun at all, I would set aside 4 or 5 days for a trip like that.

get caught in some states going 120 and you'll "do" time, not make it up.

True that...didn't really think about the individual persons capacity.

I used to do a TON of road trips so I generally can do alright. Drove from San Jose to Washington strait on about 3/4 hours of sleep. That puts things in perspective. That was about 12 hours.

That would put you in what...colorado?

leaving that 3rd open is a good idea. Better to pull off and crash out than to pull off and CRASH.

Another thing to consider- your route goes over Tioga Pass, which could close for the winter at a moments notice, I wouldn't plan in advance to go there at this time of year.

Most states......

I've done 120mph pretty much the entire way to LA. Half way through oregon. All the way across vegas. Depends on time of night. Traffic. Roads. Etc.

Shoot I did about 135 for an hour straight on I.5.

Usually on road trip I keep it between 80-90. But I will pretty much always open it up to 100-120 every now and again. But that's just me.

It's why I hate all these new cameras and ****. **** me off. I don't understand how you can do jail at all for speeding. Put me in jail for speeding??? WTF? Maybe if you're doing 120mph in traffic. That's just stupid and endangering those aroudn you that have nothing to do with you. Doing 120mph on I.5 at 3am in another story.

Longest drive I've ever made straight through was Ft. Polk LA to Philadelphia PA straight through, only stopping for gas.

You've got a great ride planned out though. If you've got the time take it easy and enjoy the way. I'd make a week of it, staying in a few downtown cities going out at night and a few more rustic areas. I hate rushing drives, so much to see and do along the way.

Done that drive (or rather, pretty similar) a few times...

Figure 4 days. Especially if you aren't experienced with REALLY long driving days.

FWIW, unless you REALLY want to go thru traffic worse than the Bay Area I'd avoid ATL. Just take 40 all the way to Greensboro then head south. 40 thru eastern TN and western NC (Smoky Mtns) is a lot more scenic that middle AL and GA anyways (I grew up in northern AL).

Also note that I-40 can be, ummm, "variable" weather-wise in the winter. Eastern NM thru Little Rock AR often suffer from some nasty ice storms in the winter. When that happens, the road is not just slow...it is outright CLOSED. It might also be 60-70 degrees. Like I said, "variable" . Keep an eye on weather in-route, and if necessary just cut down to I-20 in TX and go from there.

Its not a felony to drive over 100, I have got a ticket hanging on my wall for over 100+. Its only a fine plus 2 points and no traffic school. This is the way it is in cali, I cant speak for the other states.
