drag racing...dry ice... help

okay im goin to sacramento raceway on the 24th wensday night drags....
i was wondering since sacramento is really hot temps and it goes up to 100 plus degress..

is it safe to put dry ice on top of the intercooler jus to cool down the intercooler then take it off b4 i get run my car?

is it safe to put the dry ice on top of the intercooler while drag racing?
cuz i heard rumors that dry ice is too cold that it can crack the internals..

I would say yes, but be sure to break the chunks small enough so that you can evenly distribute it over the I/C. In other words, don't just throw one big chunk on there and call it a day.

On a side note, does anyone think that the added CO2 caused by the dry ice "melting" will cause any adverse effects?

It shouldn't since the CO2 would not directly go into the intake and starve the engine of a combustable gas.

I hate to break it to you but that does very little. The cooling properties of the water spray come from the evaporation, not the fact that the water is cooler than the surface area. It does help but it's very minute. Try laying a bag of ice on your IC while in line with your hood open then remove it when you line up.

when i went to sac raceway i put a few pieces of dry ice on top of my intercooler during my runs. i had to also keep my hood closed since they dont allow dry ice to be used.

Do you really get anything out of using dry ice?
