Does anyone in the Bay have Ohlins fixed-perch struts?
I am considering getting a set of these for my 02 bugeye. Since they are spendy, I am wondering if I can test-feel them before I buy. I am interested in getting a ride if someone has a set of the Ohlins fixed-perch. If you are willing to take me for a spin, I will buy you lunch.

yes we do recommend and sell Ohlins, either fixed or coilovers.
we personally run the coilover's and have a few customers who do have the fixed...I have never received a complaint when it comes to the ohlins, always a great way to go.

LIC, does anyone there run the fixed-perch? If so, I may have to make time to visit you...
I am concerned the coilovers are more race-oriented, so that they will feel substantially different than the fixed-perch with street-appropriate spring combo. Not sure the test drive value is there for me with coilovers.

I have ohlins and showa on my bikes. I can tell you a proper set up on the street will make it hard to tell what brand of anything you are riding on.
Biggest things with any set up is to have it dialed in correctly. I sent my teins out for rebuild. They are revalving them to my specs and we are respring them. I do not have them back just yet. But once I get them. 3 weeks out. I'll set the spring sag, then corner weight the car. I also have the rest of my suspenion parts matched to work evenly togther. It should have a nice balenced effect. Then for a track day I can adjust from there.
But on the street. You'd be hard pressed to feel any differance.
I work on Ohlins, Showa, and a few others and teach shim stack mapping, revalving, sag and so on.
Understanding and proper set up will go along way..... So I hope that helps in your perfect ride quest.

I ran Ohlin's in my 04' Super modded Mini cooper S.. Quad set in the front with a double cross-over in the rear. Best coilovers I ever had.. They felt like driving a luxury car either on the track or the street. Not harsh at all like the $1000 to $3000 coilovers(which are harsh and bouncy). I'll be getting a set of the fixed perch struts from Ohlins when my stock ones go out. Imo, there's nothing better out there.

Request - besides just reviewing "awesome shock" or whatever, can you guys DESCRIBE what made them so good and in particular WHAT YOU WERE DOING WITH THEM and HOW THE STRUT BEHAVED?

Wow, this thread is stirring up up some opinions. I just have a polite request to all: I appreciate that some may really think the Ohlins are worth it, and some prefer something else. However, my only purpose in this thread is to get a ride-along with an Ohlins Subaru so I can make a judgment for myself. Given the cost of a good quality strut (of any kind), I really prefer doing a ride-along before I spend my money.
Just to be clear, I have driven/ridden in cars with many different brands of strut, and in my experience they are definitely different. Each kind most definitely has a certain feel to them. I just want to find out what the "feel" is with the Ohlins FPS. They come very highly regarded by people in the know, and I want to experience this for myself.
