i have done it before... just while cruising heading to school and back.. very simple, and smoother than using the clutch..

it is basically rev matching.. that is all it is...

Hmmm I personally never tried doing that...

What happens if you misjudge or get the revs wrong?

Daniel, is that what the guy told you?
He said that he shifts without using his clutch during high speed shifting, as in when he is driving really fast.

I know its possible, but why would anyone do it?

it wouldn't go into gear if the revs are wrong, but if you force it hard enough you'll hear a horrible sound.

i find clutchless from 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 being easier than the lower gears, so i guess that dude can make sense if he's really good with rev matching.

Its just floating your gears. At a certain rpm your gears go the same speed and you can shift with out clutching in.

I remember that night, I have seen videos of people driving without shifting on YouTube as well.

I've never done it, I usually shift into my gears.

I always used the clutch to shift. I've known a few who could shift without the clutch.

that's partly what the clutch does, it helps the synchros mesh so you can easily shift.
Also works on an up shift. It's floating gears. Do it right and it won't mess up your car - do it wrong, it'll feel really nasty.

I would think it's for someone that has a clutch that's not grabbing anymore that just needs to get it to the shop without a tow. I haven't thought of any good reason to do it all the time or to even do it.

My friend had a 62 Triumph Herald and the only way to downshift would be to rev it up and drop it in...makes you feel like a cool old school racer haha.
