How are dings removed? I know it varies depending on severity. But do shops usually take off the door panels to remove dings? thanks.

After watching a guy at the SubyDude dent day, probably the easiest method to deal with dents is to go in through a hole in the body (usually plugged) and use long screwdriver-like tools to ease the dent out from the backside. If the dent happens to be in a place where you can't reach from the backside, I'm not sure.

i'll guess i'll just rip off the dynamat. damn that's going to be soo hard to do. it's the stickiest stuff i've ever delt with.
what a waste
i thought putting it on the inside door panel was a good idea.. ya know.. extra damping.

If you're going to have a scheduled Dent guy day, it would be in your best interest to remove the door panel ahead of time, peel away the portion of the Dynamat and then the dent person will have an easier time and you can salvage your mat. I know it sounds like a PIA, but in the long run, you'll get your dent removed, and your dynamat saved.
You can probably use an exacto razor to cut a square around the dent, but make sure you go large on the cut out. this will allow the dent tool to massage and work around the sheet metal. Good luck!

is your dynomat on the outer metal of the door (the part that is dented) or is it on the metael right behind the door panel? as long as the metal that is dented is accessable he can remove the dent, if its on the door normally he will place a wedge between the glass and the door seal and that will make a space so he can slide his toolds down in there and massage the dent out. its not a big deal i watch them do it all day at my dealership.
the panels rarely have to come off to remove the dents.

Some people have used dry ice. The dent is basically expanded metal, and so by applying dry ice, it srinks the metal back. It will only work for slight dents though, and you have to be careful that the paint doesn't freeze to a point where it will crack when the metal starts to return from its dent.

yah. thanks a lot guys. PITA to take Dynamat off? oh yah. lol. I tried ripping my sheet off. Doesn't work. It just end up peeling off the pretty aluminum. all the sticky stuff is impossible to come off. Prolly just spend a good couple of hrs picking at it with a flat-head. Perhaps there is a solution to removing it. i'll check the website or my trusty friend google.
Thanks a lot for the help guys. I've had the worst of luck with my car. I hope Chicago people don't key and ding cars as much as they do in the East Bay.
