It wasnt meant to be temporary. I was going to run that setup with the wider wheels up front and try and sell off my 17s and buy a wider set.
Ive been cruising other forums too and some people claim they've run the same exact setup without any issues but then others say not to because it will damage your differential.
Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this or is this just being passed around from one person to the next? Why would subaru risk putting a smaller spare tire in a car that had a glass differential. That would be a liability nightmare..

from NAZIOC:
from 3gwrx talking about spare tire with 4% circumference difference

Ill keep searching. Im still not sold either way. Who makes/works on our differentials thats well known?

Q. Do I need to replace all 4 tires is I have a blow-out?
A. Because full time all-wheel-drive systems read traction from the tires, mis-matched tires are a bad.
This means all tires need the same tread pattern and size to within 1/4" circumference?. The same tread pattern means they need to be from the same manufacturer. If you have a non-repairable blow-out and the tires aren't brand new you should replace all 4 unless there's less than 1/4" circumference difference.

That's exactly what I ran at Summit Point,WV last fall. I had gForce R1's at 225/50R16 fronts and 205/55R16 rears, and a 20mm rear sway bar. BFG designed these tires as a matched set, with identical rolling circumference and therefore, identical revs/mile. (I bought the R1's off an S2000 owner.) With stiff sidewalls and stiff shock settings, the car was balanced almost perfectly, with almost no understeer and plenty of rotation for the low speed corners. It worked like a charm!

Damn - That's not good news! :-\ I had no idea the difference was that significant.
I just blew out a sidewall on a sharp rock coming back from a backpacking trip in CO last week. I had to drive 500 miles on that damn spare to get me home - nobody had a replacement tire.
I asked a knowledgeable tech at my dealership about driving that far on it & he said it should be O.K. The car drove just fine - no pulling or abnormal gear whine. I certainly hope this isn't going to come back to haunt me.
