lol, I think the OP's point has been so sorely missed...
I think as time goes on and these cars get cheaper, you've definately got a more socioeconomically diverse group hanging out together.
As time goes on there is no question the WRX/sti crowd has gotten younger - I remember a couple BBQs I went to right after I got my '03, where the age range was 21 up to married and brought their kids to the meet.
While it's always a fun time at meets there's a different experience hanging out an older crowd (feels like a club) and a younger crowd (feels like kickin' it). Dunno if what I said just makes sense, but it's IMHO
So while I agree with the original poster, I don't think this would ever happen in practice
