From the looks of the exhaust manifold expanding under the heat I dont think they were able to flow the amount of exhaust created and built up too much pressure in the manifold.
But hey Im no rocket scientist.......

penguin was driving in the city on a hot day with the ac on when his car broke down.
got it towed to a mechanic and they said they'd check it out.
since it was hot outside, penguin walked to the store and bought an ice cream cone to cool off.
penguins aren't very neat eaters so he had ice cream all over his face when he got back to the mechanic.
mechanic looked at him and said, "looks like you blew a seal."
penguin says, "no, it's just ice cream."
