yup. the way they discovered it was cancerous? watchmakers. watchmakers hired painters to paint the fine details on watch faces and hands. when radium paint was introduce the painters were the first exposed...

how did the painters get a fine point on their brushesfor the detail work? licking them... they also all started getting mouth/tongue/throat cancer at the same time.

It was worse than that... the women's jaw bones were literally dissolving and their teeth were falling out.
Some people literally had the bottom of their faces just decompose.
