I have to agree with many here. Before I would buy a Dell laptop, I'd buy an IBM Thinkpad or Sony.
As far as the Dell Desktops. We have three at our house. Never had a problem and they're inexpensive too!

Maybe its just the 3 people I know that bought dell inspiron something or others. After 6 months, they get slow. solution : send back for 'fixing', which turned out they just added more of the dell-crap-o thermal compound. =\
And they are flimsy.
I am kind of mean to my laptops though, they get tossed around in my back seat like an 18yo virgin in prison. ;x
Right now I have an Asus M3Np thats doin ok, but I miss my old IBM 600E, that thing last for ever but it was soo slow. I still have it but the mouse goes crazy and makes the thing unusable.

And Powerbooks, dont get me started. Sucky resolutions on their screens.

Both the 9300 and the powerbook 17" have the same native WXGA+ 1440x900 resolution.
The only way to get a higher resolution on the 9300 is to upgrade video cars and opt for the WUXGA screen, and once you do, the native resolution of 1920x1200 will make many things way to small on the already small (relative to a good desktop) 17" screen. For real world work 1440X900 is more than enough on a screen of that size. I will agree though, that the brightness (TrueLife) of the upgraded WUXGA screen is nice. Also, two products being built in the same factory does not mean those two items will share the same build quality. Much of what we view as good build quality is thanks to the original specs, tolerances, and build materials chosen by the design teams, not the factory. Take for example the fact that most LCDs 20" and up are made by LG/Philips, yet the deiffernt vendors that sell to the end user such as Apple, Samsung, Dell, and Sony all have very different fit, finish, and features.
Get an IBM if you want to stick wintel.

try ******************** once in awhile...
They don't have any deals on Dell laptops yet, but I got a desktop package with $750 off a few weeks ago. Good luck...
