People these days accept far too easily whatever the media spits out. They find a channel that offers a news source that coincides with their personal convictions, and they follow it like a lost puppy, believing everything it says.

Even if some conspiracy theories are absolutely malarkey, it pushes people to at least question what they're being fed by the 2 or 3 major media sources in the U.S. which are either extremely liberal in their agendas, or extremely conservative in their agendas.

Truth! He's using this to deflect heat from fiscal policy.

The problem with the "theorists" is that they are like my son - they take only the bits and pieces of what they want to hear and basically create their own "truth". Then people dumber than them listen to it and treat it as fact, exactly like what the media does. I saw a program the other night that was about the media's influence on "popular thinking". It cited a study that showed that if the media is talking about something, it will become an "issue"; whether it is important or not.

Good point.

I tend to like to play devil's advocate, so people who do the same intrigue me and I find entertainment in it even if, as I said above, it's absolute cow fodder.

Here's another one that I've been thinking about for a few years:

If the media did not give MASSIVE coverage to this sort of thing, would others have done the same thing? Where did these shooters get the idea to do something like this in the first place? THE MEDIA. So the government and media are pointing fingers all over the place, but the fact is, the media actually fuels the fire for what they are supposed to be "against".

And this. At least it is a step, but we know it likely won't result in much real change that benefits most people, certainly not gun owners.
