Hmmm....this thread would be 100 posts long already if it was only the suspect that was shot (and subsequently killed,) but if it's a cop in critical condition it's ****in crickets....

At least keep the officer in your thoughts over the next few days.

....and don't forget the SJ firefighter who went down at a church fire the other day.

Sheesh.

Yeah I sat in it for a little. It was crazy and hoping the CHP pulls through. He doesn't deserve getting shot in the neck.

Offender: SFSU Graduate, Masters Degree in Computer Science and no other priors other than a DUI.

Officer: Father of four, Army Reserve, Graduated Academy in 2005

Reason for Stop: License Plate

Regardless of the kind stop; traffic stops are one of the most dangerous type of situations for any officer to get into. So, to help out, if you get pulled over. Keep your hands on the steering wheel, open all your windows if they are tinted, and turn on the dome light in times of darkness.

If you're a witness of a officer pulling someone over, keep in mind the location, type/color of the vehicle and how many occupants in case there investigators need a witness for a officer being injured/killed.

I heard that it wasn't the person who got pulled over it was a person who pulled up behind the cop

Officer Youngstrom passed away this evening.

Keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Doesn't matter if you like cops or not, their jobs are dangerous and they'd put their life on the line for you in a heartbeat so don't be a dick when they pull you over.

I trained with some great CHP guys last week on the helicopter... Some of the nicest people ever. They have a super dangerous job.

That is all great advice as well, make their job easier and they will make your life easier. That stuff doesn't go un noticed.

Why are getting so defensive? Who here has said anything negative about this cop that got shot? And I certainly hope your not implying that people being disgusted by other incidents of police brutality/misconduct equates to wanting to see cops get shot and killed senselessly in the line of duty.

Anyhow, prayers go out to his family, and I wish there was more info on this, what was the deal with the other car/suspect that fled the scene?

Agreed. This is really crazy. I am sorry to hear that the officer passed; when I heard that he had a severed spinal cord my heart sunk. I assume that what happened to this man has NOTHING to do with the unprofessional officers out there.

Other car, 99 Nissan maxima was located in Danville. It was not associated. CHP made the stop for an obstructed license plate. During initial contact, suspect pulled a glock and shot the officer in the neck. Cover officer arrived and returned fire and struck the suspect. Both were brought to critical care. Only reason officer probably didn't pass sooner was for family to say good bye and organs to be harvested to save more folks in need.

I've had my share of difficult or unprofessional people. But going to work each day knowing you might not come home or the thought of leaving your family, your kids, being left alone for the rest of their lives? Thoughts and prayers with CHP, law enforcement, the military and their families.

Damn, last I heard was brain trauma and he was brain dead... =\. I guess the family realized what that led to.

I wish I had more info on this situation too, the whole idea of "parking in front" vs the usual parking in back.

Weird guy, just got his masters in Computer Science, barely any background besides a DUI 5+ years ago.
