and now my car sticks to high heaven! On the way coming down the back of Forest Hill in the City, I'm a car length behind this minivan. All of a sudden, it swerves to the left. I check my rear views and go right. The minivan just barely misses this big bloody black and white heap in the middle of the lane. My front left wheel misses the bigger mass and runs over... THE FREAKIN' TAIL!!!

I get home and shine a light on my tire and sure enough, there is guts all over the wheel well of my car and of course the unmistaken "nutty" smell of the skunk. I grab my car brush, put soap on it and douse the entire left side of the car with water and scrub the tires, rims and well of the car. Geeze, it looks like I ran over a quart of grey yogurt. I didn't even run over the whole thing, just the tail! Spent like 20 minutes out in the dark scrubbing the wheels all the while gagging. I sprayed Orange Cleaner all in the wheel well and left it outside for a bit. In about an hour I'm gonna hose it off again.

Anyone got any ideas?

Stan, you realize that the base of the tail is where the skunk's, uh, stink sacs are located. So that was pretty good aiming on your part (j/k). But seriously, you can also get a solution for removing skunk spray from pet stores. My dog once got nuked by a skunk. We used this stuff, and it broke down the musk, and the smell went away. Just can't remember the name. We got it at Petco or Petsmart, i think. Good luck.

After bringing the car in that night it seemed like the stench went away, but it turned out that I got used to the smell. I went into the garage the next morning and I nearly puked. I clearly didn't get all of it.

I pulled the car out again and sure enough in the light there was areas of the car I missed, gave it another wash and sparyed it with a ton of that orange stuff and got into the wheel wells. Got back that night and the car was smelling quite... orangey. So the problem is finally gone.

Thanks for all of the advice. I heard that tomato juice works but thought it was just for skin, hair and clothes.

Lesson? Yeah... I was probably better off running over a live one skunk. j/k
