Damned CEL!
Argh...last night on my way to work, my 2.5RS's (MY2000, BTW) CEL lit up. I'm debating whether I should take it to my usual mechanic (who did a 25k service on my car a couple months ago) or take it to Carlsen Subaru (which is pretty far from where I am..not that far, but really far compared to the distances I normally drive).
I don't really know what to do at this point or who should I take it to. My usual mechanic is a friend of our family's who's done servicing on all our cars for years, plus the shop is real close. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Call up Carlsen, make an appt and ask for Kevin to do the work and diagnostics.
Trust me, get it done now. How many miles are on your car? If under 60k, you're still under warranty. I'm guessing this is probably something stupid like the 02 sensor. maybe your car was never taken in for the recall swap? I know there was some recall on the 00/01 and i think it was a 02 sensor.

Well, before you jump to any conclusions, reset the ECU. If it throws it again, then take it in. That is my advice. You should have somebody pull the code from here on the boards for free. It will save you the $50 or so that a mech would charge to do the 5 seconds of work!
Good luck!

you can unplug the negative side of the battery for about 15mins
then plug it back in. The alarm will most likely go on because i have the same MY, just have your remote ready. Then start the car up and let it idle for 10mins, dont do anything like rev it up. Then turn off the car and restart it again. ecu is resetted

Hahaha...thanks guys. It WAS the ECU! Not only did it fix the CEL problem, the ABS stopped being retarded. Cuz at stops, my pedals would start vibrating, even though I'm not braking hard, and it got annoying. However, I might bring the car in sometime to fix that weird wind noise coming out of my driver's side door. I think there might be a whiny noise coming out of my engine bay, but I dunno what it is. So, don't worry Kevin, I'll see you sometime in the near future. Hahaha.
