Aint legal for anyone to drive without headlights on once its 30min past sunset. If they are trying to be sleeper they are supposed to park on the shoulder, maybe he watched a lil too much 'Knight Rider' before his shift.

isn't he a danger to other drivers in the area without his lights on....wait, that actually makes sense so cops won't do that.....

i dont think the law applies to cops. i told my friend who is SJPD that i saw a police parked in a fire lane while he was getting money from the ATM. he told me that police are not normal citizens, and the law only applies to citizens.

i think he might have just been talking out of his a$$ though.

It would be nice if police brutality and police stupidity would both be considered crimes.

i dont know about CHP, but loca cops they never really turns on their head light. and i even asked a alameda police officer before too, i was like why you guys only have parking lights on and not headlight? he told me that its a habbit, and most of the cops does it. they dont do that driving their own car tho, just the cop car. werid

at the end of the summer, back when i was driving my m3, i had an encounter with a similar situation. I was leaving a party and walking to my car in a parking lot across the street. Obviously i wasnt drinking, cause i was planning on driving home. basically what the cop was doing was looking for an excuse to bust into the party, because it wasnt loud, and there were no illegally parked cars or anything. he was parked with all his lights off in the entrance to the parking lot, it is a one way entrance, and a blind turn from the street. i walked by the side of the car and he jsut started grilling me and then started to ask me questions and started his little informal investigation. i told him to leave me alone and that he was being unsafe in the way he had chosen to park. i took a picture of his plates and reported him to the local pd because i was having a bad night. the pd hit me back later and told me that this was the second time people had complained about the officer and that hes lost control of patrolling the area that i was in

Things like where they park are whatever; but anything that causes a potential danger (like rolling around after dark for more than a block) without headlights is certainly an unsafe practice. The recent tragic rundown of those bicyclists in the south bay is going to dust off the topic of accountability and safe practices in the public discourse.

the problem with cops is that they think they are above the law....that they can do whatever they want........

Not all cops, only a small portion. It's those select few that leave bad stereotypes for others. We have a few among us on this board, and they're all great.
