Th e coolant in my Suby is pretty low...

should I be concerned? There is some in there, but it's pretty low!!

Never had my temperature gauge go up tho?

thats your resevoir tank
if you are worried about it just fill it up to the line with some water

mexicanpizza 05-02-2004 10:54 AM

Check it when it's hot! It should be fine! :D

don't you need special coolant in WRX's?

see..I'm at 24K and I never brought my car in the dealer for services since I do my own oil/filter change every 5k and Auto Innovations takes care of my tire rotations. I was going to do another oil change today when I notice the reservoir tank was pretty darn low!

Thanks.

Daredevil 05-02-2004 12:55 PM

no they don't, its just water and normal coolent

and yes, check it when engine is hot

zumnwrx 05-02-2004 01:20 PM

check it when its hot... look for seapage of coolant around the radiator.. edges.. and around the clamps...

you should be fine..

edgar, :)

You'll be fine Luke. That's just the overflow tank. Mine looks like that too. :) Check it when your car is hot, and it'll be way more filled.

Distilled water is better than tap water, especially on engines with aluminum blocks/heads.

could you explain this reasoning? Just want to learn more useless knowledge on coolant...

Thanks,

Tap water = minerals = rust.

Distilled = clean = good.

thebankman 05-02-2004 08:27 PM

Would the high heat the radiator is exposed to burn off any of those minerals from the tap water?

No, quite the opposite. The heat makes the minerals even more reactive. Causes something called 'scaling' which can lead to blocked coolant passages and head gasket failure.

Closed system...no place for minerals to go.

Distilled water = teh bombz.
