Violators of the left lane rule may be fined up to $41 and have three points tacked onto their driver's licenses. The law is not enforced when the highway is too congested to allow drivers to pass.

I agree 3 points is excessive and only $40 bucks for the fine...man I would rather pay more and have less points....

Different states have different points sturctures, 3 points in CA and you are one point away from having your license suspended,
surely that can't be the case in those states....
or maybe it is?- if so 3 pts is pretty brutal, but getting pulled over is totally in order.

Colorado points are way different.
MINOR DRIVER: 16-18 years of age
More than 5 points in 12 months
More than 6 points within time period for which license was issued
PROVISIONAL DRIVER: 18-21 years of age
9 points in 12 months
12 points in 24 months
14 points within time period for which license was issued
DRIVER 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER
12 points in 12 months
18 points in 24 months
And as far as I know, they've had that law for a while now. Colorado rules.

/\/\well, if thats the case, then 3 points is cool! and I agree....Cali SHOULD do that....but for us, it should not give any points and be like a carpool violation $271.

its not excessive!
think about it, people that impede the right of way only put others in danger more! because me or you will go ***** out to pass, and put him you and others at risk...
how many times have you been behind some jerk in the fast lane going way slow and you had to merge over to the right punch it and pass him? (you should never have to do that)
edgar,

That's awesome, and better yet if this was implemented in California, over 1/3 of all the drivers would have their liscense's suspended within a year . No traffic!!
I have 6 points on my Colorado license. I wonder how that will transfer over when I finally get my CA license.
People in Colorado have a completely different driving style from people in California. They drive much slower, calmer, and have less road rage. I'm not sure if that has to do with less traffic, or the weather or what, but I find myself driving much faster and more aggressively in California. Also, everyone in Colorado hates Californians and Texans. California transplants either crash because they drive too damn fast in the snow in their damn SUVs, or they drive too damn slow and **** off all the "natives" who drive hillbilly pickup trucks with stickers on the back that say NATIVE in big letters.

Actually, California does have this law- I know a CHP officer who pulled two people over and ticketed both at the same time. One for speeding, the other for not yielding the right-of-way to the speeder.
