color matched vinyl in the bay area?
So I am wanting to go wingless but until I am able to either find a wingless trunk or buy another one and have it painted after filling the holes I was thinking of putting color matched vinyl over the holes. Has anyone here had any experience with a place in the area that is good to work with. Obviously I don't need much though having my rear bumper wrapped probably wouldn't be a bad idea considering the clear coat is absolutely hammered at the moment.

Seems a lot to spend for vinyl with the likely hood of the holes showing through. Grab some plastic "Christmas Tree" body plugs from Grainger or Fastenal instead.

That said, where are you specifically so I can recommend a Vinyl Shop.

sent an email to savage wraps in milpitas and here it is..

I have a few holes in my trunk from a

color? Would it hold up well? I have a

heres the response:
No wrap is going to truly match the body of paint - it will come close, but at better 2nd glance - it will look off.
Plus any premade vinyl, again - will either be too glossy or just be a shade off.
It really depends but first hand comparison from a color book here. Plus the holes would need to be plugged up because a wrap is just a big decal and anything not right underneath will simply be covered, but it outer lining defect whatever it may be will still be evident. Hope that helps narrow down your options.

Thanks for the replies guys. I wasn't planning on having the whole trunk wrapped just small color matched circles made to temp cover the holes till I can come up with a permanent solution. Looks like the best bet might be the plastic plugs with some touch up paint applied to them. It's a wrx wing so not that many holes to cover.

yeah this is exactly what I did on my STI, though I was lucky and found a silver vinyl that was a dead on match with PSM. you really dont need a shop for this, just get a square foot of vinyl and cut out some 1" circles with a razor knife and stick them over the holes. if you can handle sticking your registration sticker on your license plate you can handle this
You'll want to double them up though, graphics vinyl isnt very strong.
the hard part will be finding a blue metallic vinyl thats a close match to WRB, Avery has a color called "Electric Blue" #A7747-M that is very close, g'luck!

My wrx is PSM so I need to find a matching silver. I was thinking of picking up some touch up paint from the local dealer and painting those plastic trees but the brake light wiring hole won't work with the plastic trees. Mind sharing where you were able to find the matching vinyl?
but yeah PSM is alot easier color to match. Get it from here, called Silver Metallic they will sell you a 2"X1" piece for like $25 and they also take paypal. DECALFX.com! Uncut Sheets Vinyl Colored Carbon Fiber Graphics Custom Decals Stickers Logos Mirror Chrome Bulk Rolls Sheets

~I'm across the bridge from you and in your area at least twice a week, LMK if you want a second look at how you plan on doing this. Stay away from the touch-up paint bit and go with vinyl. If it peels slightly you just put a dab of superglue under the edge of the tape to get it to stick to the plastic plug. Paint generally does not stick to them, no matter how well you think you've prepped them.

^That. Sorry I wasn't more descriptive in my answer but I was on "Stealth Mode" while replying.

Btw, I'm OBP. I haven't done any searching yet but I'm assuming it'll be pretty easy to find a matching vinyl color?
