NM, I just read the specs in the other thread, holy crap man, just shy of 400hp, thats just INSANE. All he really needs now is a roll cage and some stickier tires.

What's the deal with that intercooler setup? There's two, one on top of the other, I thought the radiator went somewhere else???

I did a quick google search and it seems like ej20 or ej25 non-turbo motors fit right in there with minimal mods. But most of these are in other countries. I guess I'll have to ask around the VW forums
It's better because they are pretty good daily drivers and quick.

It's easier because it's just bolts on. No need to mod anything really. (unless it's a 6volt system.)

The major problem with those bigger engines is changing spark plugs. You have to drop the motor just to change the plugs. lol

It's clearing the carbs and changing intake gaskets which makes it a *****. It's always fun when you find out that you have an intake leak after you bolt everything back up.

I'm a type III guy myself.
But, I had plans of doing that to my 64 Variant (squareback). The 914 motors will drop right in too, but there is just something about a turbocharged Suby motor in there that makes me tingly! In fact when I sold that car on the samba, they guy who bought it was going to do a full WRX swap, for his wife's daily driver! It's been two years, and I'm still waiting for him to send pics!

I also got the tach to read vehicle speed. I hooked it up to my test bench and sent it a signal with a frequency generator to achieve "60mph". I then measured the wavelength with an oscilloscope and with some calculations, I figured out how many teeth the sensor would need on a 235/45ZR17 tire to achieve 60mph. This works beautifully as it has great resolution. I can read all the way down to 2mph with the EMS.
wow!!!!
