Is Christmas religious?...
It dawned upon me as I was writing a philosophy paper for a final that this question arrived.
Is Christmas religious? Is it still religious now?
Please don't take this topic and spam it with nonsense, sensible replies with answers and why you think so is good enough.

Because the holiday has it's roots in religion, it will be religious for some people.
The general question "Is Christmas religious" can only be answered by each person individually.

I'm not religious in the slightest. and for sometime i thought about dropping x-mas all together. But instead i choice to look at the day as a "santa day" and i like Santa. To hell with all that church crap.
Christmas marks the Winter Solstice carried over from Pagan origins. The date made the converting-to-Christianity deal a bit easier for those Roman folks back in the day...waaaay back in the day. ok, im done. heh
I'm not too religious anymore, more of the seasonal Catholic. Though I do like how it tends to bring out the good in some folks.

Christmas started as a religious day... whether it was by Pagens or Christians.. no matter... it was a religious deal.
Today it's all about the Benjamins! I hate it. Unfortunately, I have a family full of freaks that think they may go to hell if they don't celebrate it.... so I'm obligated to do the presents or feel like a schmuck for not getting anyone anything. I'd rather save the money and buy something I actually WANT than spend a bunch of money getting other people stuff they don't want in order to get a bunch of stuff I don't want in return.... crazy how it works huh?
Anyway.... Christmas sucks.

To me Christmas is a celebration of my family and the people that I love.
But that doesn't mean it can't be religious for others.

Christmas = Christ mass. I agree on the overcomercialization, but It's a time of year for people to stop thinking about themselves, and aside from the stress,I think for the most part it brings out th best in people, religeous or not.

although I always considered it a "Santa Day", like you said.....but I would never have thought to get rid of it (from my life) completely.
I like Santa, Xmas Dinner, Cookies, and all the rest of the awesome things about it, plus the fact that it brings my family close together....atleast for a few days there, is the best.-Ted

To Christians it's religious, though Christians acknowledge that Jesus wasn't born on Dec 25th. It is still a celebration of his birth, no matter what the origin of the holiday.
For all Americans, Christmas is a great break from the usual grind, and something that is good for our society, AND our economy!
